Robert Dale Erickson, age 88, of Cambridge died March 14, 2016 at home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, APRIL 2nd at Common Ground – United Methodist Community, in Cambridge with Pastor Jean Rollin officiating. A time for visiting will be held from 9:30 A.M. until the service starts at 11:00 A.M. at the church. Entombment will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery.
Robert Dale Erickson was born February 2, 1928 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Harold and Dorothy (Andrews) Erickson. He was raised and attended school in Markville and Cloverton, Minnesota. Bob served his country in the US Marine Corps. He enlisted on his 17th birthday 1945, served 4 years, then was called back to serve 1950 to 1951. On April 15, 1950 Bob was united in marriage to Virginia Kelch and they made their home in White Bear Lake, Minnesota. Later they lived in rural North Branch for 30 years and in 1991 they moved to Cambridge. Bob worked as a chef & steward on the dining car for the Great Northern Railroad from 1943-1968 and then as a Food Supervisor at Sandstone Federal Prison until retiring in 1988. Bob liked woodworking, building 10 houses (1 his, 8 Habitat and 1 his sons), enjoyed bee keeping, raising sheep, wood cutting, traveling with Virginia and friends, wintering in Texas, and was always ready to help anyone. He was member of Common Ground – A United Methodist Community in Cambridge. Bob was also a Mason and member of Helios Lodge in Cambridge.
Bob passed away March 14, 2016 at home at the age of 88 years, 1 month and 12 days. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond and Harry; and sisters, Margie and Alice Ann.
He is survived by his loving wife, Virginia; son, Robert Erickson and daughter-in-law, Diane of Cambridge; daughter, Janyce Potter and son-in-law, Don of Bloomington; 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 5 brothers, Richard, John, Curtis, Gary and Mark; and by many other relatives and friends.
