Ernie Asmussen paper obit photoErnest V. Asmussen, age 75, of Braham and formerly of Isanti died December 26, 2009 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, December 31st at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel with Decon Tom Pinataro officiating. A visiation will be held from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 30th at Strike Funeral Home – Isanti Chapel. Interment will be in East Bradford Cemetery.

Ernest Vernon Asmussen was born March 13, 1934 in Hillman, Minnesota to Walter and Josephine Asmussen. He was raised and lived his early years at Hillman. Ernie served in the Navy from 1951 – 1955 during the Korean War. He married Karen Zwicki and they made their home in Northeast Minneapolis. He was employed by the Minneapolis Post Office. They moved to Isanti in 1976. His wife, Karen, died on February 17, 1998. Ernie moved to Braham on December 7, 2001. He enjoyed his guns and firearms and was a member of the National Rifle Association.  He also enjoyed traveling, his tattoos, going to the casino and dining out.

Ernest Asmussen died December 26, 2009 at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis at the age of 75 years, 9 months and 13 days.  Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Karen; and by two sisters, Tudy and Ruth.

Ernie is survived by five sons, Steve of St. Paul, Guy (Julie) of Ogilvie, Russ (Billie) of Rush City, Todd (Jen) of Ramsey, Robbie of Brooklyn Park; 18 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his best friend, Helen “Toots” Struzyk of Minneapolis; and by many other relatives and friends.
