In Memory of Zac Schlickenmayer
Zachary “Zac” Schlickenmayer, age 28, of Cambridge died unexptectedly August 17, 2009 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Friday, August 21st at Strike Funeral Home – Cambridge Chapel with Pastor Bill Berg officiating. There will be a time for visiting two hours prior to the service. Interment will be in Stanchfield Baptist Cemetery.
Zachary John Schlickenmayer was born September 27, 1980 in Fridley, Minnesota to Dennis and Jean (Wehri) Schlickenmayer. Zac was raised in the Cambridge – Isanti area and graduated from Cambridge High School in 1999. He lived in Cambridge and his daughter was the love of his life. Zac also enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing horseshoes and cribbage, shooting trap and going to the races.

Zac is survived by his daughter, Taylore Rae Schlickenmayer of Cambridge; father, Dennis Schlickenmayer of Stanchfield, mother, Jean Kline of Stanchfield; two brothers, Kelly (Chele) Schlickenmayer of Cambridge; Josh (Taryn) Schlickenmayer of North Branch; fiancée, Jessica Goldsmith; grandmother, Mildred Keller of Bismarck, North Dakota; two nephews Bailey and Casey; and many other relatives and friends.
I’m so sorry to hear about this. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. I know we havent kept in touch over the years, but we are still family and the love is still there and always will be! We are friends of Zac’s mom and dad and know the stuggles Zac has been though, we feel sad that he felt no hope. zac has a daughter, Talor, that is so sweet and we hope she remembers zac as good father. God Bless zac and his family.

He was very sweet, well-liked, popular with girls, amazingly athletic and such a gentle presence. May he rest in peace now and forever.

So sorry to hear about your loss. I do remember when you moved next to my parents and my first school bus ride with Zach. He was the “new kid” and EVERYONE wanted to know his story! It was so funny when the girls in our grade found out that I knew where he lived and rode the same bus… I had a lot more friends that wanted to come over after school! He will be missed!

My deepest condolences for your loss. Zac was one of those people that was able to touch many of our lives in a special way.
I can remember playing cards with him during class in fourth grade (Mr. Zimmerman’s class). He beat me every day, but it was still fun….and it was great watching Zimmerman turn bright red when he told us to put the cards away multiple times. Zac would laugh so hard at that and say, “old people”.
He was always able to get the girls, too. I think a lot of us looked up to him and tried to figure out how he did that so effortlessly.
There were so many great things about Zac and we will all miss him so very much. I will never forget him. Rest in Peace Schlick.
My thoughts are with Zach’s family because I know he will be missed. I had the pleasure of knowing and growing up with Zack, and I think back to the fun times of camping and fishing on the “riv.” I will always remember Zack as a great person and a great friend. My sincere sympathy to the Schlickenmayer family.
Dear Dennis and Jean, When I heard about Zach this week, I said oh my gosh that’s Dennis and Jean’s little boy. Years have gone by and they aren’t little any more. There are no words to tell you how sad I am for you and your families. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you in this very difficult time. May Zach find peace in heaven. He will be Taylore’s forever Angel.
My thoughts and prayers are with all who knew Zach. I haven’t seen or talked to him in years, but when I heard the news it felt like I just saw him the other day. I have many fond memories of the time Zach and I spent together as kids at our homes and at school. It was always full of laughs and fun. I will always remember how fast he could run. Whether it was a pick-up game of football, soccer or baseball no one could catch him and everyone wanted him on their team. I will always remember Zach. He will be missed.

I have so many memories and I’ll never forget him. The majority of my most cherished childhood memories included Zac. Ever since Dennis moved next door to my family in Cambridge, Zac and I were best friends. I don’t even remember how old we were at the time, we were just little kids. Zac split time between Isanti and Cambridge; when he was in Isanti I always missed him and couldn’t wait for him to come back. As soon as he drove up next door it was time to hang out and play. We played a lot of sports. Zac always had great natural talent. Whenever we played football or baseball games in the neighborhood, Zac and I always managed to get on the same team. We fished, hunted; he went on trips with my family and I went on trips with Dennis, Zac, and Josh. I have so many memories and I’ll never forget him.
I strongly believe there are always lessons to learn from a tragedy. I think everyone that knew Zac will come away with a different lesson that will help make us all better people. Maybe my lesson is to not let the course of life create space between myself and the people I love. Zac meant the world to me and my family. He is a major part of who I am today. I’ll never forget my best childhood friend.

I am so sorry for your loss. Over the years we have lost touch, but Kelly, Josh and Zac were always my favorite cousins. The highlight of my year was when Dennis and Jean and “the boys” were coming to visit. It meant everything in the world to me to spend time with all of you. Kelly and I were best buddies, Josh was a goof and hilarious to be around and Zac…cute little Zac. He was just so happy to tag along and have fun with us. Remember when we all went swimming at Grandma’s pool in Tatley Meadows? That was one of the first times you met Chris and now we’ve been married for 20 years. Chris thought you guys were the coolest kids. Jean, you were always my favorite aunt and Dennis, I always thought you looked like such a tough guy but you have the biggest heart of anyone. My VERY happy memories of Zac will always be with me. This family was blessed to know him.

I want to extend our heartfelt sympathy to your family on the loss of your son, brother and dad.No one can begin to know the heartache of the loss of a child.I do know the tremendous sadness I felt on my heart when Joe called to let us know about Zac.I’ll always think of him as “little Zac” around our home.I have fond memories of that cute,sweet,quiet boy with that great smile. In our hearts he was a part of our family.Joe and Zac were best of friends.I can still hear them running through the house just laughing about something they thought was funny.and always some sort of sport activity going on.They were quite the pair..it was friendship at its finest. I did not get to know Zac as a man,but was fortunate to see him a few years ago,so we caught up a little. He told me about the good memories he had from those years he spent around our house.That was also when he told me about his daughter.I could see in his face how much she meant to him. Ihope that she will always know that about her dad.

The service for Zac was one of the nicest I’ve ever attended. Zac, and all of you, have a lot of great friends. Let them comfort you through this very sad time. You did a lot of fun things together and have wonderful, happy memories to comfort you, too.

Even though you and your Dad & brothers called each other “Chump” and always got a good laugh out of it, you came up one better with “dangas”! “Whad up Dangas?!!”
I miss you calling or coming over almost everyday just to see what I was doing. NASCAR races will never be the same without you, but I’m still going to pull for Dale, Jr. for US. I am so happy we got to the race track in Olgivie a few weeks ago together. And that leather #88 jacket you gave me (just for the Winters, yours in the Summers!), will be more cherished than you can imagine. And everyday around 1:00 o’clock, your Dad is going to play a game of cribbage or horseshoes with his buddies or one of your friends. Poker in “the compound” as you named it, on weekends. Your daughter is a “Schlick” and will become a great fishing & hunting fan, like you, thanks to her Uncle Josh and Uncle Kelly. You will ALWAYS be the “Polish horseshoe Champ”, and we are retiring the Snake belt trophy in your honor. And we all know that the “9-point buck” record won’t be broken any time soon!!
We KNOW that that was NOT YOU when this tragic accident happened. I believe that God wanted you to come home to Heaven, where we will all be a family again. Yes, you have had many trials in the last couple years, but you never gave up hope, because your daughter was your life & mission. So this is not Good Bye, but we’ll see you later.

We will truely miss Zac. We will miss the talks we would have about family, relationships, being a parent, and work. Of course Craig and Zac would talk hunting. I’ll miss the hug he needed to have when he was feeling down. He wanted to grow and be the best person he could be. I remember the day he asked me for permission to marry my daughter, when he started calling me mom. He was so happy about their future together. We will miss the way he loved Jess, the way he looked at her and the way he would give her affection. We are sad for Zac, Jess, Hailey, and Tayolore who were all excited about being a family and the upcomming wedding. We were excited to have Zac as a permanent part of our family. To Zac’s family, our hearts goes out to you for your unimaginable loss. You will always be in our thoughts and prays.
Zac, my best friend, words can’t express how much everyone misses you. Although we weren’t blood you know we always felt like brothers. I think about you every day and the great adventures we have had. Its been pretty tough living life without you, and I know I speak for everyone you know when I say you are truely a gift of god. Even though I am older than you I’ve learned things from you I will never forget, like some of your tricks for walleye fishing and camping. Our children were conceived and brought into this world just a couple months apart and I know chase will never forget his uncle zac. You were great with taylor rae and you will forever live on through her, she looks just like you!! I still remember the first time I met you over 20 years ago with josh and I will never forget all the great times since. Thank you for every thing you have given to my son and I. It’s been over a year that Zac’s been gone and today will be the 2nd Birthday he’s missed. Your family has gone through so much this past year. Josh, Taryn and Taylore took Jean out to eat at the Creamery Cafe for breakfast on 8/17 and then some quiet time at “Your Place”. Later on Jean brought some chairs, a table and music to sit with you at “Your Place”. So many people stopped by. I couldn’t believe I hadn’t seen your brothers for over a year! Josh is almost as thin as you were and Kelly has apparently taken over as the family clutz. He drove for hours to get home before nightfall to stop at Your Place. Budweisser is no longer the choice of beverage. Josh said it makes people fat and everyone is drinking “light” now.
Josh and Taryn are doing a wonderful job keeping Taylore in contact with the family. Miss you lots! Brenda
